The Lady Archers played against Grace Christian U. in a close and thrilling match Friday, September 19th, at the Archers' home court.
In the first and second set, the teams battled back and forth for the lead. Despite incredible digs by Kiarra Henkel (Senior), smooth blocks by Emerson DeVries (Freshman), Grace Christian won the first set. With several incredible blocks by Liv Clem (Freshman), great serves by Briseis Zequieida, and spikes by Kiarra Henkel, the Archers edged out Grace in a close second match.
The third set was more pronounced, with the Archers fighting for an early lead. With coordinated efforts from Sophomores Grace Vahey and Olivia Reid, as well as great contributions from new teammate Maci Bailey—who made some gutsy digs and saves in her debut game—and Kaylia Humiston—also new to the team but making incredible blocks and kills, the Archers were able to work as a unified team to maintain the lead and hold on for the win.
The fourth set was another close battle of the teams. There were several great kills from Kayliah Humiston and Grace Vahey, and coordinated blocks by Olivia Reid and Emerson DeVries. Despite the efforts, Grace Christian U. snatched the victory, tying the sets.
In the fifth and final set, Grace dominated, winning 15-8 and taking the final win for the match.
The Lady Archers will travel down to Moberly, MO, to face off with Central Christian College on Friday, September 26th, at 7 pm CDT, and then go on to Joplin for a match against Ozark Christian College, Saturday, September 27th, at 1 pm CDT.
