Shorthanded Archers delivers four-set win over Great Lakes Christian

Moody Bible Institute's women's volleyball team overcame injuries and absences to capture an impressive victory over Great Lakes Christian on Saturday. The Archers pulled together to knock off one of their NCCAA Midwest Region rivals 25-22, 25-14, 21-25, 25-19 at Solheim Center.

Moody started quickly, taking an early lead that they never relinquished en route to a first-set win behind stellar defense and timely kills from five different hitters led by outside hitters Kiarra Henkel and Abby Clinton. The Archers poured it on in the second set, serving five aces and getting Great Lakes out of system numerous other times while frustrating the visitors' offense with strong blocking and back row digging.

Great Lakes rallied to extend the match to a fourth set before Moody rebounded to build a 20-11 lead on its way to its third home victory of the season.

"Today was one of our best all-around performances of the young season," head coach Jeff Smith said. "From serve receive and defense to serving and our offensive attacking, we played a very solid match, especially while dealing with injuries and a shorthanded rotation. Our energy level, communication, and collective fight and grit were also encouraging to see. All glory and honor to God!"

The Archers are preparing this week for two more home matches when they host Mount Mary at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and Grace Christian at 6:00 p.m. Friday. Wednesday's home match is Old School Game Night. Spectators will be invited to participate in fun contests between sets with a chance to earn prizes. Friday's home match is Spirit Night. Spectators who dress in the most fan-supportive and creative Moody gear will win prizes.
