Troy Fichter is the Athletic Director and Head Coach of the Men's and Women’s XC Teams. He wears many hats in the Athletic Department and serves with all his heart for the love of his Savior, the MBI students and community, all the teams' athletes, and all who enter the Solheim Center for church, ministry, and outside group events. He is a father figure and mentor to many and is fondly known as "Coach" to the Moody community.

God gave Coach Troy the vision to start MBI's first women's cross country program in the Fall of 2012, and the focus of this program has been all about being united in Christ, encouraging each other, and glorifying God. While Coach Troy developed several athletes with no running background into all-American runners, and led his teams to 7 national titles over the years, he remains humble and focused on leading his athletes to glorify Christ and do their best for the Lord, regardless of accolades or results. Coach Troy started a men's cross-country program in the Fall of 2024, and the men's team placed 2nd in the nation in the Fall of 2025.

Coach Troy came to Moody Bible Institute in January 2000 to complete a B.S. in Biblical Studies. He then completed his M.A. in Spiritual Formation and Discipleship from Moody Theological Seminary in 2004. Seeking to combine his biblical training with his passion for fitness and health, he completed his M.S. in Sports Fitness and Health from the United States Sports Academy in 2011. Fichter has been a full-time employee at Moody Bible Institute since 2005 and is a Level 2 USA Track and Field Endurance Coach and a USATF Cross Country Specialist.

Coach Troy was the Athletic Operations Manager at MBI for 16 years and taught in the Lifetime Fitness Department for 15 years before becoming MBI’s athletic director in the summer of 2024. Coach Troy models whole-hearted, relentless servant leadership every day. He is passionate about increasing the impact of the Solheim Center for the kingdom of God, and selflessly invests, trains, and equips his athletes, staff, and students to grow and develop as followers of Christ, to utilize the gifts of sports and fitness to bring people to Christ, and to become all they were meant to be in Christ.

He has the heart, vision, and drive to grow all of MBI’s athletic programs, but his biggest desire is to lead, mentor, and equip MBI’s athletes and students to grow closer to Christ, to show Christ's love in whatever community or arena God places them, and to go tell the world about our Savior!
