The Archers played against Kuyper College in the opening-round game of the NCCAA DII Midwest Region Quarterfinals, hosted by Emmaus University in Dubuque, IA. After a thrilling game and incredible fight by the Archers, Kuyper ultimately took the win 74-65.
The Archers were down by double-digits most of the first half, with 18 points being the largest deficit. The Archers cut the gap to 12 points at half time (30-42). To start the second half, the Archers went on a 23 to 5 run and went up by 6 (53-47). With 8:24 left in the game, the Archers were still up by 5. With 3:59 left, the Cougars took the lead back, 59-62. With 1:20 left in the game, Moody was only down by 2 points. Kuyper then slowly pulled away, to win with 65-74.
Sherman Etienne and Thomas Wright were the top scorers for the Archers with 14 points each, with Caleb Ward and Isaac Martinez scoring 11 points each. Trace Stivers led the rebounds (9 total), and Thomas Wright was close behind (7 total). Isaac Martinez made 7 assists for his team.
Coach Chapin expressed, "The guys played their hearts out and I'm so proud of them. Our focus on defense came together today. It was great to see the guys find that final level in effort and execution to content for a playoff win. It was a joy to be this team's coach." He went on to praise Assistant Coach Christian Pollard for encouraging and helping each player improve: "This season would not have been what it was for all of us without Coach Christian. His insights on game strategy, and practice management added such value to the whole team experience."
This marks the end of the Archer's 2025-2026 basketball season, a season that marks incredible effort, growth, commitment, and heart. We will miss our seniors Thomas Wright, Sherman Etienne, and Cameron Scott, but we are excited to see how God will continue to guide and bless them in their next steps on and off the court!
